M.E.S. STUDENTS ENGAGE IN GLOBAL CLIMATE DIALOGUE – LCOY’25 AT GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY

A group of 9 students from MES Indian School actively participated in LCOY’25 (Local Conference of Youth 2025), a youth-led climate conference hosted by Georgetown University in Qatar. Organized under the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), LCOY’25 served as an effective platform to educate, engage, and empower young minds on critical issues related to climate change, sustainability, and environmental action.

Through a series of interactive workshops, expert-led sessions, and collaborative discussions, the conference brought together high school and university students from across Qatar. The MES student delegates had the opportunity to learn directly from leading environmentalists, researchers, and climate advocates, gaining first-hand insights into the urgent climate challenges facing the world today. Students included Mohammed Ehan, Austine Joju, Shahzed Shakeel, Naiza Fatima, Evelyn Johney, Ayeshathul Afna, Shefy Gafoor, Annette Hannah Jetty & Nimisha Liz.

The school principal, Dr. Hameeda Kadar, commended the participating students, stating: ‘Our students’ involvement in LCOY’25 reflects MES’s commitment to preparing environmentally conscious leaders of tomorrow. The recent Seashore Green School Award 2025 won by MES stands as a testament to the school’s outstanding commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.’ The event participation was coordinated by Mr. Manmmadhan Mambally, Chief Coordinator of students’ external activities.
