In a significant stride towards environmental conservation and sustainability, the Scouts and Guides of M.E.S Indian School successfully implemented the Seed Pen Project—a creative initiative addressing Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land. This impactful programme was implemented under the Ministry of Education’s directive through the Qatar Scout Association, focusing on combating plastic pollution and promoting reforestation.
A delegation comprising 25 Scouts and 3 Guides from M.E.S Indian School visited the Qatar Scout Office, where they showcased the initiative before Mr Ghanim Al-Kuwari, Scout Association Commissioner, Mr Ahmad Al-Yousef and Ms Muna Al-Mansouri, Scout Activities Consultants, and other dignitaries. The officials commended the project for its innovative concept and strong alignment with Qatar’s environmental goals.
The Seed Pen Project replaced over 1,000 plastic pens with biodegradable seed pens that grow into plants when disposed of in soil—offering a simple yet powerful way to support green efforts. Over 1,000 participants joined the initiative, each pledging to reduce plastic usage and plant trees, reinforcing the students’ role as agents of environmental change. Mr Rajesh K. S., Overall In-charge of Scouts and Guides, and Ms Blessy Peter M., Guide Leader, guided the MES team. Dr Hameeda Kadar, Principal of M.E.S Indian School, extended her unwavering support and inspiration, highlighting the importance of youth-led sustainability actions. This pioneering effort stands as a testament to MES’s commitment to creating environmentally conscious global citizens.
