World Book Day was enthusiastically celebrated on 23rd April 2026 at M.E.S. Indian School, Doha, under the theme ‘Go All In.’ The programme was organized by the Language Departments in collaboration with the school library, Scouts and Guides, and the Campus Care Force, reflecting a unified commitment to promoting a vibrant reading culture within the institution.
The school Principal, Dr Hameeda Kadar urged every learner to immerse themselves wholeheartedly in the world of books, stating “reading not only enriches the mind but also nurtures empathy, creativity, and critical thinking—qualities essential for holistic development and global citizenship.” The celebration witnessed wholehearted participation from the KG, Junior, Boys’, and Girls’ sections each play a meaningful role, contributing through a diverse range of literary activities. The campus was adorned with creative cut-outs on foam boards and visually engaging displays of student artwork, vividly capturing their imagination and deep appreciation for books. The programme featured eloquent speeches on the significance of World Book Day, expressive poetry recitations, and an engaging Literary Dress-Up activity, wherein students portrayed renowned authors and iconic literary characters with remarkable enthusiasm and creativity.
A special reading session, DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) activity involved entire school staff and students at the school. A twenty-minute reading session was scheduled underscoring the enduring value and transformative power of reading. The school encouraged all members of its community—students, teaching staff, non-teaching personnel, and support staff—to actively participate in sustained reading practice. Various classroom activities were conducted, including role play during Language periods and book swapping along with in-class library activities during English classes on the day. Complementing this initiative, the “Design a Book Cover” competition provided a creative platform for students of Grades 3–12 to express their artistic talents. Drawing inspiration from their favourite literary works, students produced imaginative and visually compelling book cover designs, reflecting both creativity and a deep appreciation for literature. The Kindergarten teachers brought along their favourite books, featuring a diverse range of genres. The initiative was highly appreciated as it effectively promoted a love for reading and encouraged a meaningful exchange of literary interests among teachers.
The celebration concluded successfully, fostering a love for reading, enhancing literary awareness, and promoting the values of sharing knowledge and imagination among students.
