As a part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the school, the Department of English, M ES Indian School hosted ‘Talking Point 2024 – Golden Voices’, an interschool debate competition on ‘Is technology enhancing or hindering the learning experience in schools’ on 12th October 2024 that brought together participants from 12 schools across Qatar. Two debaters from each school represented the contest leading to an engaging and competitive atmosphere with 24 students vying for top honours.
An esteemed panel of judges comprising Mrs. Usha Ravishankar, Adv Manjusha Sreejith, and Mrs. Asha Shiju methodically judged the debaters on their arguments, delivery, poise and rebuttal skills. The participants engaged in spirited deliberation of ideas, presenting and tackling thought-provoking arguments with substantial evidence on the given topic.
Miss Archana Soman of Rajagiri Public School was awarded the Best Speaker title for delivering her presentation in a flawless manner with remarkable clarity and conviction. Master Arman Ali of Bhavan’s Public School was awarded the 1st runner-up, Master Ayaan Navin Tiwari of M E S Indian School, Abu Hamour emerged as the 2nd runner-up, Master Alvin Thomas of MES Indian School won the Best Rebuttal title and the Best Team award was bagged by the team that comprised Miss Archana Soman and Miss Thanu Madhya of Rajagiri Public School for their well-reasoned arguments, whose teamwork and cohesive arguments earned them the top honours.
Dr Hameeda Kadar, Principal, MES Indian School congratulated the winners and participants for their spectacular performances and effort displayed throughout the event. ‘ The Talking Point 2024 Golden Debate not only provided a platform for young debaters to shine but also fostered critical thinking, public speaking, and leadership skills,’ remarked the Principal. Coordinators of the Department of English along with a team of teachers ensured the smooth execution of the programme. The event concluded with a grand felicitation ceremony recognizing the winners and participants for their enthusiastic participation and outstanding achievements.
