MALAYALAM DEPARTMENT OF M.E.S ORGANIZES FOLKLORE WORKSHOP

As part of the Golden Jubilee celebration of M.E.S. Indian School, and to enhance the students’ knowledge of and sustain their interest in Malayalam folklore, the Department of Malayalam organized a folklore workshop titled ‘Vamozhiyattam’ for the students of Grades 5-8 studying Malayalam at Indian schools across Qatar.

An art-integrated teaching initiative in alignment with the National Education Policy, the workshop was conducted by the ‘Kanal Qatar’ team, led by Mr. Sudheer Babu, recipient of the Kerala Folklore Award in 2022. Mr. Shaiju another recipient of the Kerala Folklore Award in 2018 and presently working as a teacher of Malayalam at Bhavan’s Public School, Qatar, is a resource person for the event.

 

 

The event began with an introduction by Mrs. Lekshmy Ganesh. Mrs. Bijily Mohanakumar, Coordinator, Department of Malayalam welcomed the ‘Kanal Qatar’ team and attendees. In the inaugural address, the school Principal, Dr. Hameeda Kadar stressed on the importance of preserving folklore for the future generation as it serves the identity of the people of the region. The programme was anchored by Mr. Harshan V and Mrs. Deepamol T teachers of the department, and Mrs. Blessy Peter, a teaching faculty proposed a vote of thanks

Mementos and ‘Ponnadas’ were presented to the members of the ‘Kanal Qatar’ team, and participation certificates were presented to all students who attended the event.
