To equip teachers with knowledge and strategies to identify and support children with developmental disabilities in school settings, the Qatar Institute for Speech & Hearing (QISH) conducted an orientation session on ‘How to Identify & Support Children with Developmental Disabilities in School’. The session reinforced the critical role of teachers such as how to identify the student with difficulties, common problems teachers encounter in the classroom, why self-regulation is important?, types of self-regulation, emotional deregulation associated problems with poor sensory integration/ regulation, what teachers can do?, developmental norms for school readiness and classroom activities. About 126 teachers of the school attended the programme on early identification and support of children with developmental disabilities. Mr Sathish Chandra Segar, Clinical Director/Occupational Therapist, QISH and Ms. Fathima Fujra, Clinical Psychologist, QISH were the resource persons for the programme. The Department of Guidance & Counselling of the school coordinated the session.
